A recent Gallup poll has revealed that support for Israel among Americans has reached its lowest level in 25 years. The poll also indicated a continuous upward trend in sympathy towards Palestinians, a finding reported by the American magazine Newsweek.
انخفاض دعم إسرائيل
According to the magazine, this outcome is significant, especially considering that the United States has proven to be Israel’s most steadfast ally since the Hamas attack on October 7. The U.S. continued to support Israel despite mounting pressure within the United Nations and utilized its veto power in the Security Council to block resolutions, citing the need for the release of hostages held by Hamas.
The issue has greatly influenced the broader conflict, evident from protests at American universities that have made headlines due to clashes between demonstrators and opposing protesters or police. Additionally, incidents and sentiments of anti-Semitism have surged, not only in the United States but also across Europe.

The Gallup poll found that support for Israel among American adults dropped to 46% in 2025, marking the first time it has fallen below 50% since Gallup began tracking this issue in 2001.
Conversely, support for Palestinians rose to 33%, surpassing the 30% mark for only the second time during this period. This increase first occurred in 2023, although sentiments dipped in 2024 before rising again.

The latest poll was conducted between February 3 and 16 during a temporary ceasefire and hostage exchange between Israel and Hamas that commenced in January.
Moreover, the survey revealed that 40% of American adults approve of former President Donald Trump’s handling of the situation.

The poll results align with partisan trends, showing that Republicans tend to support Israel, while Democrats lean towards backing Palestinians. Specifically, 59% of Democrats support Palestinians, in contrast to 21% who back Israel, while 75% of Republicans express support for Israel against 10% for Palestinians.
Notably, a majority of Democrats and independents favor the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, with Republican support slightly trailing at around 76% for Democrats, 53% for independents, and 41% for Republicans.

Republican support was at this level prior to October 7, 2023, decreasing to approximately 25% in 2024, though support rebounded in 2025.
The poll was based on a random sample of 1,004 adults aged 18 and older from all 50 states, conducted through telephone interviews, with a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points and a confidence level of 95%.

Gallup commented on the findings, stating: “American sympathy for Israelis continues to decline, largely due to decreased Democratic support for Israelis in the conflict with Palestinians. Republicans remain significantly sympathetic towards Israelis.”
It added: “Simultaneously, the establishment of an independent Palestinian state continues to garner majority support among Americans, though this is considerably stronger among Democrats than Republicans. The discussion surrounding the two-state solution for peace in the region has largely stalled following the October 7 attack, as world leaders grapple with how to ensure Israel’s security post-war, the role of Hamas in Gaza, and governance in the West Bank.”
